Mobile Production for limited space venue
We were approached by Glyn at GASP Creative and tasked with producing a multi-location townhall livestream for their corporate end-client. The event aimed to connect leadership at a UK headquarters in Bracknell with key teams across Europe, including Amsterdam, Berlin, and Vienna. The broadcast needed to support a dynamic agenda featuring business updates, people-focused segments, insights into AI innovation, and a live, interactive Q&A session.
The corporate office space in Bracknell lacked a suitable dedicated area to rig a traditional production control area. On top of that, a limited rigging window demanded an exceptionally efficient setup to ensure the broadcast was ready to go live mid-morning without a hitch. The technical complexity involved managing multiple broadcast-grade camera feeds, presentation sources, video playouts, and ensuring robust signal integrity to numerous international locations.
To overcome these challenges, we deployed a comprehensive mobile production solution centred around our Outside Broadcast (OB) van and advanced fibre optic infrastructure.
Mobile Production Hub – The OB Van: Our OB van provided an immediate, self-contained, and professional control room environment directly on-site. This entirely bypassed the issue of limited interior space at the client's offices. Within the van, our team had a dedicated and optimised space for all critical production tasks. This included live vision mixing between cameras; our package featured three state-of-the-art Sony FR7 PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) 'hot head' cameras alongside a Sony FX6 as a fixed wide shot. Crucially, all cameras were remotely controlled by our operator stationed within the OB van, eliminating the need for camera personnel within the studio area. This remote operation strategy further maximised the limited available space and minimised disruption in the live environment. The OB van also housed the management and cueing of presentation machines, flawless video playback for pre-recorded segments, and full audio mixing and monitoring to ensure crystal-clear sound for all participants.
Streamlined Cabling with MTP Fibre: To ensure efficient and reliable connectivity between the event space inside the office and our OB van, we ran a single 24-channel MTP fibre multicore. This consolidated all critical video, audio, data, and communication lines into one robust connection, dramatically reducing cable clutter within the office and significantly speeding up the rigging and de-rigging process.
Optimised for Rapid Deployment: The inherent advantage of our OB van solution was the ability to pre-configure and test much of the core production setup before even arriving on site. This meant that upon arrival we could rapidly deploy a preconfigured solution, ensuring we were fully operational and ready for rehearsals well within the limited rigging timeframe.
