Genelec Studio Monitors — Dry Hire
Genelec 8000 series active studio monitors for hire — the 8010, 8020, 8030 and 8040 — for galleries, edit suites, outside broadcast and webcast control rooms. We hold the range rather than a single size, so the monitor can be matched to the room instead of the room being matched to whatever monitor turned up.
Every model in the range works the same way: each cabinet is bi-amplified with its own amplifiers for bass and treble, so there is no external amp to rack or match. A single balanced XLR in and mains is all that is needed, which makes them quick to patch into a PPU, a flypack or a temporary edit suite. The die-cast aluminium enclosure takes being packed and unpacked daily in a way that a wooden-boxed monitor does not, and every model sits on an Iso-Pod stand that decouples the cabinet from whatever it is standing on and lets it tilt towards the listener.
Maximum SPL figures below follow Genelec’s own convention: peak acoustic output per pair, measured at one metre with music material.
Genelec 8010 (8010A)
The smallest of the range, and the one that goes where nothing else fits. The compromise is deliberate — you give up the bottom octave in return for a monitor that sits on a cramped operating position, survives being moved every day and still tells you the truth about a mix.
76mm bass driver and 19mm metal dome tweeter
Bi-amplified: 25W Class D per driver
Frequency response 74Hz – 20kHz (±2.5dB)
Maximum SPL ≥105dB peak
181 x 121 x 115mm (195mm high with Iso-Pod); 1.5kg each
Genelec 8020 (8020D)
A step up in both level and low end without taking much more desk space. This is the sensible default for a PPU, a small gallery or a review position where the 8010 would be working too hard.
105mm bass driver and 19mm metal dome tweeter
Bi-amplified: 50W Class D per driver
Frequency response 62Hz – 20kHz (±2.5dB)
Maximum SPL ≥107dB peak
242 x 148 x 142mm with Iso-Pod; 3.2kg each
Genelec 8030 (8030C)
The point in the range where the monitor stops being a compromise. A 130mm driver reaching into the mid-50s covers most speech, music and mixed programme honestly, and rear-panel room response controls let it be trimmed for a hard-walled OB truck or a temporary studio.
130mm bass driver and 19mm metal dome tweeter
Bi-amplified: 50W Class D per driver
Frequency response 54Hz – 20kHz (±2dB); −6dB at 47Hz and 25kHz
Maximum SPL ≥110dB peak
Rear-panel room response switches for boundary and desktop compensation
299 x 189 x 178mm with Iso-Pod; 5kg each
Genelec 8040 (8040B)
The largest monitor we hold, for rooms with space and work where low-end balance is part of the deliverable — music, drama, anything being mixed rather than checked.
165mm bass driver and 19mm metal dome tweeter
Bi-amplified: 90W Class AB per driver
Frequency response 48Hz – 20kHz (±2dB); −6dB at 41Hz and 25kHz
Maximum SPL ≥115dB peak
365 x 237 x 223mm with Iso-Pod; 9.4kg each
Choosing a size
As a rule: the 8010 for anywhere space is the binding constraint, the 8020 for a standard PPU or gallery position, the 8030 for a working edit or mix position, and the 8040 where the room is large enough to hear what it can do. If you are not sure, tell us the room and the programme material and we will say which pair to take — including saying when the smaller box is the right answer.
We do not currently hold a Genelec subwoofer. For work where the bottom octave genuinely matters, the 8040s are the right starting point, and we will say so rather than send you out under-specified.

Outside broadcast and flypack systems that are rigged and derigged daily
Temporary edit, review and mix suites on location
